The Genesis of an Adventurer
Welcome to the unfolding chapters of my life's adventure, where every path taken is a story of discovery and passion. I'm James, with over 30 years of venturing into the unknown, exploring wildlife, and immersing myself in the cultures of over 80 countries across five continents. My journey is one that spans the globe, yet it's deeply rooted in the love for the natural world and the endless quest for new horizons.
A Culinary and Hospitality Foundation
My story begins in the vibrant world of hospitality, where I sharpened my skills as a chef, wine sommelier, and hotel manager. But the true call of my heart was towards the roads less traveled. This call led me to an epic overland journey from Egypt to South Africa, marking the beginning of a decade filled with guiding adventurers through the Middle East, North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and South America. It was during these years that I developed a profound connection with Africa's soul-stirring landscapes, its people, and its majestic wildlife.
Venturing into the Heart of Africa
The creation of my own overland business came naturally, focusing on bespoke 4x4 tours in Namibia and Botswana for those eager to explore Africa's heartlands. This venture was more than a business; it was my way of sharing the continent's unparalleled beauty and my keen spotting abilities with fellow explorers, guiding them through some of the finest national parks and game reserves.
A New Chapter in the UK
After a decade of adventures, I returned to the UK, my suitcase brimming with tales of the wild. As a travel agent, I specialized in creating exquisite safari experiences and high-end journeys, focusing on destinations that held a piece of my heart—Greece, Spain, Namibia, and Kenya. Yet, the call of the wild remained strong.
Embracing the Scottish Highlands
Seeking a new chapter, my partner Lucy and I embraced the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands, combining our love for the great outdoors with the warmth of hospitality in our B&B and the Glen Spean Brewing Company. This new adventure was a blend of our passions, creating a sanctuary for those who share our love for nature and craft.
Continuing the Adventure
Even now, my adventures continue, with recent journeys leading me back to the heart of southern Africa, guiding small groups through Namibia's breathtaking landscapes. Away from the rugged trails, my life is filled with the joys of wine collecting, the serenity of swimming, the excitement of football, golf, badminton, and the simple pleasures of walking my four dogs through the stunning landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
